Where is the information for living in Venezia?:
Venetian Festivals, Festi di San Marco, Boccolo

As I’m in one of the most famous touristic place in the World, Venezia, I began to find a travel information on the web. This is my first time in Europe so, you can imagine how I’m excited to travel around Italy.

At the first day, a friend of mine, who is Indian genius, let me know this website. http://wikitravel.org/en/Venice : Here you can find a general travel information for the common travelers. (History, attractions, museums, place-to-go, etc) But, this is not enough. What I really need is practical information that we can enjoy all together like Venetians. (local residents)

Everyone knows the world famous Venice Carnevale in February, and Since I arrived here in March, I’m looking forward to upcoming events. St. Mark’s Feast Day(Liberation Day), which is April 25th, could be the first nice experience for me as Venetian.

Let me tell you about St. Mark’s Feast Day :

Festa di San Marco - 25th April , the feast day of the city’s patron saint, when men give their loved ones a long-stemmed rose. It’s maked by a gondoliers’ regatta across St Mark’s basin between Sant’ Elena and Punta della Dogana, the Lion of St. Mark’s golf championship, and by the consumption of the traditional dish of Risi e Bisi (a soft and liquid risotto made with freash peas and flavoured with bacon)

Regatta : godola race

- Day of Boccolo, red rose bloom -

Speaking of a Rose, this day is also called Festa del Boccolo.  This tradition started from a sad love story of the man who loved a noble woman tried to overcome the social class differences.  He went to the War to make himself to be able to marry with his beloved woman. Unfortunately he was wounded to death, and falled over a rose bed that become red by his blood. He asked to his friend to give a red rose to his beloved one. Since then, Venetian lovers use that flower as an emblematic love pledge.

Romantic Story, and it’s true story… so, I’d better find someone who’s gonna get my red rose.

By the way, there are interesting sites that you should check :
